W : Pantai Sepat

On 29th January, 2011 my family were all gathered about in the furthest offset to the east of Malaysia's map. We were at Pantai Sepat, Kuantan. Awesome piece of beach strip, but the weather was not too much on my side. The wind was blowing strong to the point that our hair would whip us swiftly in the face, and the coconut trees were swaying way too much. I'm not complaining, nor was I then. It was purely how things were and I'd like you to know that.

This is what we'd call, Majlis Bertandang..which brings the meaning of 'Visiting reception' of the bride, to the groom's house. But it not necessarily mean going to their house, can be a hall, a strip of farm or whatever we please. Nowadays, the context has been stretched out far and thin that practically anything goes!

My family stayed in a lovely horse-filled accommodation called 'The Saddle'. The beds were comfy enough, and the rest I couldn't really recall due to the commotion the horses caused in the morning. Apparently my cousins were cheeky enough to feed the horses with some kuih bakar from the kenduri the night before..which lead to the horses waiting at our doors for more. Naughty!

This is my family..and the pink shade was just something Faliq chose, and we went from there.

My bestie Jenga! Love her outfit..got the lacey part when I was in Jakarta..I really liked our reception here...If I may try to describe it in single word phrases..

It was rustic.

Colorful in muted tones.

Woody.

Of course with the F factor, and no more element of surprise. I can't be bothered anymore. To the extent that the lead singer of the band exclaimed in awe, " This is the first time ever that I have the bride and groom come up to take the mic with just one announcement." Pakcik. Pakcik tak kenal Faliq saya ke?

If only I could hide beneath the veil. Haha. The wind was pretty awesome. It rained a bit though, but only for a brief period. We didn't cut cake in the afternoon session..Instead we had something more fun!

Mandi Sampat. I can't seem to be well read enough to tell you what it is exactly. But its just a local tradition that involves the following elements : water, silat, coconut cutting, more water. And wet people. Also it is tradition to have the bride wear the kain pelikat, and the groom to don the kain batik.

I can't recall what I had to say then. Maybe just a coy so that his ciggie will be half gone by the time I'm done whispering =p

Told ya. Water fun.

This part. I failed. Miserably!! We had to contain water in our mouths and at the same time, spray it onto our partner's face. Tsk tsk..I had water running out of my mouth. I tried to contain it, but the whole event was too funny and way too much laughing going on for me to do anything that concentrated! Of course, Faliq sprayed me without any mercy!

Water action. My cousins could not wait any longer. See, the kids weren't even done with the martial arts part..caught red handed!

There was a plot to get my family wet..and we did do it in a good sport manner. I kept telling Faliq's relatives that if my family were pissed, they'd have left the reception long ago.

Change of clothes, and doing some more serious photography taking business in the art gallery. Many thanks to Yon and Babak of course, my official photographers for my wedding. Also a big shout to Jengga, my pengapit! Thanks for doing my make-up (yes..all by her!) and staying for the whole event.

Much love.

Double tree

A whole meringue pie to ourselves. It was too much. But I want to share this somewhere, and off course not in my facebook, making it all too public and open for people to see. It is the same here as well I guess. But anyways, just wanted Elly to know I took pictures of the cake!

Thanks so much =)

Its interesting how much our wedding had to do with trees. That's a cool coincidence.

Our Khmer story

Between Khmer and I, it won't be something I will publish I guess. I'm going to keep it all to myself, and perhaps the pictures will remind me of what it felt like, newlyweds and how much of a good friend he has always been to me.

My ultimate fear is that one day the love has gone, and what is left would be disintegrated pieces of our memories. So the less I share, the better.

Khmer was beautiful. I think it was. Honest. We may never feel that way towards each other ever.

So let that be my insecurity.

Dance suckazz!

Whenever your name pops up in conversation I slowly find myself losing it.

***

We are in the middle of a dry Sahara desert. I spray you with water, since the day has not treated us so kind. The sun is shining just for you and me, it seems. A twinkle in my eye reveals more than my purest of intention coming together in the sub-layers of my conscious mind. Carefully, I lit a match and threw it in your direction.

“Dance, sucker, dance!” I pranced.

A wave of relief and an overwhelming surge of empowerment has won me over. I am so pleased!! I swear I could hear my heart beat as loud as your bare feet was pounding the ground, as the fire lit you up like a piece of paper. Your moans could not be heard. The sound of your skin crisping up, and your plea for help seemed to be muted beneath my happiness.

We are in the middle of a dry Sahara desert. Never in a million years would you have guessed it to be gasoline. But not all fluids are our best friend, even if we pray so hard. I beam as you wriggle till your last breath, presuming that was your best and last dance you’ll ever get to do.

I fail to distinguish 20 reasons why I should feel this parade of feelings towards you. But thank you for inspiring me. So I dedicate this entry to you, the person of my dreams.

Twenty Seven in Two Oh Eleven

A bit back dated entry nevertheless I enjoyed my birthday thoroughly. It pains me to think that as we grow older, our birthday marks nothing but an addition of merely the number. Ever since working in this blue blooded company, no one really seems to appreciate your birthday. It passes by just like any other day so I was dumbstruck with glee the morning I saw these babies on my work desk.

My precious balloons and Zarina, the other carebear. I honestly thought she had forgotten until later the night before she texted me asking if the birthday girl is calling it an early night. Ya think? She had also repeatedly told me how the purple balloon had popped while in her tender care of blowing the balloons beneath her desk. Haha.

We did a little photo session later that evening in the yard. Only two to remind me of the day here. Thank god for iPhones and all other cool tech stuff.

Later that week I headed on home by bus and was honestly surprised when the 'Happy Birthday To You' song that played in Naili's was actually for me. I even sung along when I heard the song playing out loud on the PA system. I was that tired. I didn't even realize that the girls had already taken out their phones in preparation to video/photograph the moment. Sucker.

My birthday celebration cum Tisha's farewell..she left us to be working with a project far away in the UK. Which is pretty awesome, the fact that she gets to go there and work with her husband on the same team.

Early Saturday morning, a trip to the golf range. KDE is pretty cool compared to Setapak. I find the trees and the lake a refreshing view to the rugged and boring warehouses my eyes are used to in KSB, the place I work in. Oh and by the way, none of my balls went pass 100 yards. Tsk tsk. Key words for the day 'letting the club do its job' and also, finding your 'factor'. But the latter is rather rubbish. So scrap that.

I don't know what it is with me and getting my own self flowers lately. But it's something I seem to be doing on a regular basis. I don't mind it. Although I believe it is my inner soul rebelling against the fact that it has been ages since I've received any flowers from F. But then, he was offshore at this time of the year.

There were also some things that he said in a conversation days after my birthday that seem to have bruised me deeper that I would have liked. I'll keep those to myself, loving old tradition has never been a crime by my beliefs. So, neither should celebrating a birthday ever be on an exception list.

I had a blessed day, number of days. Call it what it may be. And I need to make do with whatever it is that roll my way as being a grateful servant of Allah should never be superseded by anything ever so worldly.

Hey! I intended to blog on a chirpy note. But I guess this is the best that I could honestly do.

W : Kampung Pengantin

Pictures overload!! Especially for those of you who couldn't make it and do not have access to my FB account or apa2 saja alasan anda. Haha so nice of me rite.

Welcome to Kampung Pengantin, we are blessed to follow Mama when she asked us to check this place out. Initially I was about to have the reception at KDE, same place as my brother but knew I did not really like the ambiance there. Kampung Pengantin is airy, hall but open spaced concept. Pretty neat catch in the middle of Gombak/Setapak area.

My precious wedding cake!! I didn't even set any hopes of having it taste any good. As it usually is the case with most weddings I've been to. But golly, Khair's Mum's wedding cake is the BOMB. Absolutely delicious, and got the whole family loving it to pieces!

My dress by Unaisah..refer to her blog on my links tab. A great girl to work with. Easy going, pleasant and very accommodating. Super job babes!!

Make-up by Kak Fida.. please feel free to contact her or ask for her number from me. I think my make up session was pretty chilled out. I had all my girlfriends in the fitting room and none of my aunts or relatives had the time of the day to hang out there. So, I was blessed that Kak Fida could do her magic amidst all the joking and laughing like piglets - while everyone downstairs was getting the hall ready.

I think it suited the event really well. Night-time and I have puny eyes.

Ahahh!! The moment I've been waiting and dying for. Walking down the aisle..I think at this point I was more nervous than anything. I didn't even feel this way during our solemnization. Most probably because the reception has a lot riding on your shoulders and its either make or break moment. Of course, its not that extreme. Its just dinner!

My wedding stage/pelamin and high-table decoration is a funny story. We conceptualized having something really simple and earthy. Nothing too brocade-ish or over the top decoration. My initial choice couldn't pull through so luckily I gave in to Raja Nurul Ain and her husband, who coincidentally are close friends with our selected band, Blink-blink Entertainment. Long story short, we kicked off on a good start and didn't have any blunders along the way, Alhamdulillah.

Ujie my close friend with her pengapit dress that I helped design =)

Hahaha..we performed a song together. Yeah, I know right. Me?? Singing? Damn. Luckily I knew the lyrics and I was and have been a good sport since I got married T_T. We both really loved this song by Wali Band called Baik-baik Sayang (Be well, loved one..something to that extent) and performed the duet. Well, I only had 2 lines out of the whole song but man were my knees weak. My throat was dry and the whole time through the song I was ready to faint. Tapi senyum sebab camera banyak sgt. Haha.

Haha love this shot. Faliq looks so..solid? hahaha.

My beautiful family who I owe all my thanks and gratitude to.. You guys look great!

I look weird I know. But its actually quite normal of me to go off-key.

Cake cutting!! The cake didn't have soft icing so I failed miserably at dotting F's face with cream topping. Instead, the royal icing rolled off my fingers ever so.

Maksu, Along, Mama and Tidin. In yoga, we call it the 'power house'. Hehe.

My supadupas and schoolmates!! Thanks for coming and celebrating with us both.

Kiss. Or, sembur pipi?

Ok awak Hang Tuah.

Hang Tuah canggih.

Fooling around during the photoshoot. Haha. Hand bouquet by Kak Sher.

Lapar siot. Duduk meja atas tu bukan nak makan. Puas la tunggu MC panggil utk potong kek?!

Giving it our every ounce of energy..

And calling it a day, at 2 a.m. the following morning. Weddings are no easy feat! Many many thanks to Yon, and Babak from Plan B - my official photographers. Jengae, for hanging out till wee late morning and keeping me company throughout the day. I hope u will not tire of me.

Also, a quiet shoutout to my good friend Elly, thanks for the cake! and letting us rest in awesome peace in the heart of KL.

Much Love. Always.
